Silver City to Separ, NM

Heading toward Mexico!! A pretty easy ride today, some paved out of Silver City too. Camping next to the only touristy store in this area (desert otherwise), but it's next to the interstate and a railroad...and a loud generator that has been going off and on all night. Argh. Little sleep.

But found some fun friends around my sleeping area.... First pic is of a rattlesnake and second of cockroaches eating a mouse. Yes, I can't wait to NOT be here tomorrow.

Off to Mexico!!!

Shooting for a 3 day ride to the border....had I not crashed I was thinking about trying to make it in 1 day...It's only 123miles in total...however now, I have no idea how it will feel to, I have a 30 and a 50mi today option for the night tonight.  Then a 28 or 48 mile next day, then the last push of around 45mi to the border on the 3rd day.  Doable for sure.

No idea if I'll have cell service, but I'll make sure to take lots of pics at the finish line!

Until then - TIME TO RIDE!

Crash & Burn

Nothing like a catastrophic front tire flat going 35mph downhill...I was able to slow down a little but the tire came off the rim and I tried to jump from my bike...didn't work.  Instead I went down hard right...luckily a nurse was behind me and saw me fall...she helped me up and took me to a clinic to get cleaned up.  I'll spare you the bloody pics (unless you wanna see em!) but all clean and glued up now.  Doc used glue instead of stitches for two deep cuts on my elbow.  It will be interesting to see how the bandages work riding all day.  I have plenty of extra so will be able to change them if I need to.  Staying clean in a very dirty place (dirt roads and sandy desert) isn't easy.  I'll try.

Really not too much damage...broken right handlebar grip and ripped bag - replaced handlebar grip and bag isnt' an issue.
Bent my rim, but a local bike shop was able to re-true it.
Glued me up - ready to go...
Ok, now it hurts....argh
Walked my bike to the first motel I saw.
Keepin it clean....
Not sure what ppl think is wrong with me....haha this is not a fashion statement...

Ohh New Mexico and her "roads"...details of my love/hate relationship with this beguiling state...

This was one of the water stations in the middle of nowhere...a deep artesian well. Fabulous water from here!
My alarm clock.  Time to get riding.
A not-so-nice water source.  Luckily at this particular moment I didn't need to fight off other animals...but it did take some time to filter...
First crash (this is not a flat stretch of road, very steep actually), but I was able to hop off and take it at a run...quite ninja like if I do say so myself... bike was fine too :-)
Coming out of a deep arroyo.
Wildcamping...Just found a spot I liked and pitched my tent.
How true.  This road was just resurfaced (within a few days of my arrival) because of the rain a few days before that.
A typical day at work...
Sun's going down...time to set up camp!
Time to sleep...
Time to ride...
Well, thank goodness for filters!
Another wildcamp site.
Now not only do I have to watch my every step, but must be very careful where I pitch my tent too!
Always wild to find old structures in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE...and think that at one point, someone lived there...
